Certifications in CCT, FAQs

What Is CCT?

Guided by the Bible and the Holy Spirit and utilizing evidence-based practices, CCT is a new model of therapy that brings Jesus Christ into the center of the therapeutic process.

What's distinctive about CCT?

On the one hand, most therapeutic models based on empirical science rely on assumptions from a secular worldview. CCT is informed by science, but assumes the truths of a thoroughly biblical, Christ-centered worldview.

On the other hand, some Christian counseling approaches reject science presuming that the Bible is the only source of knowledge about human beings and what's good for us. CCT is rooted in Scripture and Christ-centered, and also regards the scientific enterprise as a valid means of discerning truths regarding God's creation, inclusive of human psychology and psychotherapy.

Why a certification?

A certification is a type of credential, demonstrating an individual's investment in a program of learning. Certifications communicate that certified individuals have completed the course of study and are prepared to offer a particular level of care.

Who developed CCT?

This one-of-a-kind training program is a new model of therapy developed by educational psychologist Eric L. Johnson, Ph.D., in consultation with a cadre of Christian therapists and academics. CCT follows a set of clinical, theological, and ethical standards crafted by Christian scholars and experts in their respective fields.

What standards does CCT follow?

CPI's standards committees have developed clinical, theological, and ethical standards for CCT. These will be available for review online as soon as their work is completed.

Why should I get certified in CCT?

  1. Jesus Christ is the source of all healing and, therefore, should occupy the center of our therapeutic work.
  2. By contrast, most therapy today is secular and centered around the self.
  3. Most therapeutic training programs follow secular models, which rely on a secular worldview.
  4. CCT training equips therapists to bring Jesus more directly into their therapy.
  5. CCT helps Christians experience Jesus in a more immediate and personal way.
  6. CCT addresses suffering, trauma, and sin in Christ through relationships, the emotions, the body, and the imagination.
  7.  CCT takes into account the realities of spiritual by-pass, God-image issues, and spiritual abuse.
  8. CCT helps Christians interpret the story of their lives in the context of the story of Christ.
  9. Christ-centered therapists become more humble, and therefore more effective, as they learn to rely more fully on the presence, power, and love of Jesus Christ.
  10. Jesus Christ is the perfect parent, perfect spouse, perfect friend, and perfect therapist... and he's working to make us more like himself!
