Kyle Strobel, PhD

Kyle Strobel, Ph.D. (University of Aberdeen) is the professor of spiritual theology and formation at the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. Dr. Strobel is a systematic theologian with a focus on Jonathan Edwards, sanctification, and theological psychology. Dr. Strobel teaches and writes in the area of spiritual formation, focusing on the historic Protestant vision of formation. 

Major Contributions

Among his scholarly contributions, Dr. Strobel co-edited Embracing Contemplation: Reclaiming a Christian Spiritual Practice with John Coe, published by IVP Academic in 2019. He has also contributed a chapter titled “Open to the Other: Edwards and Barth on the Self” in Jonathan Edwards and Karl Barth: Theologians in Dialogue, co-edited with Uche Anizor and set to be published by Lexham Press.

Notable Works

In addition to his academic work, Kyle Strobel has authored several books for both scholarly and general audiences. Notable works include The Way of the Dragon or the Way of the Lamb, co-authored with Jamin Goggin, in which they present a biblical vision of power through weakness. The authors take readers on a journey around the world, seeking wisdom from great Christian sages to illuminate the path of faith.

Another significant work is Where Prayer Becomes Real: How Honesty with God Transforms Your Soul, co-authored with John Coe. This work instructs readers to approach God fearlessly, pray authentically, and embrace the joy of being fully known and loved by God. Each chapter includes practical prayer exercises designed to deepen your prayer life.

Affiliations & Accomplishments

Dr. Strobel is an active member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the American Academy of Religion. He remains deeply engaged in both academic and ecclesiastical conversations surrounding spiritual formation and theology.

Personal Life 

Dr. Strobel serves on the preaching team at Redeemer Church, La Mirada, CA, where he attends with his wife and two children.
