Jeff Dryden, PhD

Jeff Dryden, Ph.D. (Cambridge) is a Professor of Biblical Studies at Covenant College, where he has been teaching since 2007. He is known for his interdisciplinary approach, bridging New Testament studies, psychology, moral theology, and spiritual formation.

Major Contributions

Jeff’s work delves into how Scripture shapes moral and spiritual life, as demonstrated in his book Theology and Ethics in 1 Peter: Paraenetic Strategies for Christian Character Formation (Mohr Siebeck, 2006). He also contributed to The New Testament and Ethics: A Book-by-Book Survey (Baker, 2013) with chapters on 1 Peter, 2 Peter, and Jude.

Notable Works

His monograph, A Hermeneutic of Wisdom: Recovering the Formative Agency of Scripture, is a seminal work that explores the intersection of biblical interpretation and spiritual formation, challenging readers to see Scripture as a transformative force for both personal and communal growth.

Affiliations & Accomplishments

His teaching impact extends beyond Covenant College, having spent a decade at Richmont Graduate School in Chattanooga, where he trained Christian counselors in theological integration and biblical hermeneutics. Before joining Covenant College, Jeff served at the English L’Abri in Southern England, a Christian study center dedicated to integrating faith and life.
