Jeffrey S. Black, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and professor specializing in counseling and psychology. With over 20 years of experience in pastoral ministry and two decades of teaching, Dr. Black is recognized for integrating psychology with Christian counseling. He has served as Clinical Director of Cairn University’s Oasis Counseling Center and as Associate Pastor at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia.

Major Contributions

Jeffrey’s research has significantly shaped biblical counseling, addressing critical issues like suicide, pornography, and intimacy misuse. His pioneering work in deductive reasoning and developmental psychopathology has been widely cited, influencing Christian counseling and developmental psychology. His book, Making Sense of the Suicide of a Christian (2000), provides a groundbreaking exploration of Christian perspectives on suicide.

Notable Works

Jeffrey’s notable publications include Pornography, Masturbation, and Other Private Misuses: A Perversion of Intimacy (1995), which offers an in-depth study of the misuse of intimacy in private behavior. Reasoning, Logic, and Thought Disorders: Deductive Reasoning and Developmental Psychopathology (1990), co-authored with Willis Overton, addresses reasoning and developmental psychopathology. He has also presented at numerous conferences related to biblical psychology and counseling.

Affiliations & Accomplishments

Jeffrey is Emeritus Professor and former Chair of the Department of Counseling and Psychology at Cairn University. He has taught at Westminster Theological Seminary and Biblical Theological Seminary for over 20 years and served as Clinical Director for Christ Home for Children. His leadership extends across both academic and clinical settings in the field of biblical counseling.

Personal Life

Beyond his professional work, Jeffrey is deeply committed to ministry and serves in the church. He resides in Pennsylvania.
